FormscanBy Alan Magee - AUGUSTE RODIN put a bitterly disappointing run in the 2000 Guineas behind him when successful in the Betfred Derby and can become the seventh horse this century to complete the Epsom-Curragh double. The son of Deep Impact was a smart juvenile winning the Group 1 Vertem Futurity Trophy at Doncaster and showed a combination of speed and stamina to beat King Of Steel at Epsom. That form has been advertised since and they finished well clear of White Birch and Sprewell, although connections of both those horses have grounds to believe they may close the gap. White Birch beat Up And Under in the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown but has developed a habit of losing ground at the start and came home strongly at Epsom. Sprewell would appreciate any further rain and, having also accounted for Up And Under in the Derby Trial at Leopardstown, didn’t enjoy the clearest of passages at Epsom.
